Hopefully, Thanksgiving is a day to slow down for a few hours, join hands with our family and friends, and truly reflect on how blessed we are. There is so much in this beautiful world to be thankful for. Take a moment to realize that on a day that is supposedly dedicated for giving thanks.

What is Thanksgiving? It’s many things to us. A time to get together and spend time with friends and loved ones.

Here are a few facts about Thanksgiving:

  • The first Thanksgiving with pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe was held in 1621 by sitting down together for a feast and giving thanks for their harvest.
  • Many might say that the pilgrims were the first to have a Thanksgiving in America. This isn’t entirely true. Marian T. Horvat, a journalist with a Ph.D. in Medieval History, claims that the first “Thanksgiving” in America was held in 1598 by Spanish explorers in El Paso, giving thanks for their safe voyage.
  • Each year, the president of the U.S pardons a turkey and spares it from being eaten for Thanksgiving dinner. The first turkey pardon ceremony started with President Truman in 1947. President Obama pardoned a 45-pound turkey named Courage, who has flown to Disneyland and served as Grand Marshal of the park’s Thanksgiving Day parade!
  • Thanksgiving wasn’t officially a national holiday until the 1900s when Franklin D. Roosevelt declared it as such. This move was largely in part to boost the economy and provide a longer holiday shopping season between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Happy Thanksgiving from our family at Rainy Days Irrigation, Inc. to you and your family.

The design and proper installation of your new irrigation system is critical to its long term success. The way your irrigation system is designed, laid out, and installed, will be the difference between a good irrigation system, and a GREAT irrigation system! A properly installed system will be reliable and keep your lawn lush and healthy.

An efficient irrigation specialist will be organized and provide:

  • Information clearly explained describing all aspects of the design and installation process
  • Adequate options to help you make an informed decision.
  • Proper knowledge on soil conditions, water source/gallons per minute, water pressure
  • Custom design and detailed proposal of project
  • Explain the types of products used and why
  • Explain future service work needed
  • Explain warranties on the system

A huge red flag during the planning process would be incomplete proposals, or lower than average bids. Low bidders my not be licensed or insured, and they may take shortcuts that can effect the life of your system and ruin your yard. During the process keep a watchful eye on the following shortcuts:

  • The installation of sprinklers too far apart, which will result in dead areas of lawn.
  • Excluding a backflow preventer to protect the drinking water in the house.
  • Not using watertight connectors and protective valve boxes to safeguard the electrical elements from water damage and short circuit.

Above all, choose someone you can trust and who also makes you feel comfortable and is receptive to your decisions, but has the right knowledge to produce results.

Rainy Days’ technicians are licensed and insured. We are happy to provide you with a consultation about our service! Contact us today >

What is Backflow Testing?

First things first, a backflow prevention device is a device designed to prevent water from flowing back into the water system. They provide protection from contamination, pollution, debris and other health hazards that can flow back into your drinking water. A few examples of usage are irrigation systems, boilers, water features and fire sprinklers.

A lot of times you can find an irrigation system backflow device hiding under a fake rock. A fake rock cover of course is designed to keep the system insulated so it does not freeze during the winter months. It also provides a nice decorative touch in the yard as well! Even the best backflow assembly can fail because of freezing, debris, improper installation and unapproved plumbing connections. That’s why backflow assemblies need to be tested annually by a certified backflow assembly tester. This ensures that the assemblies will function if there is a backflow event.

Our certified backflow prevention device testers can handle your annual testing and provide repair/replacement should the need arise. Our residential back flow device test is only $85 and for those under our service agreement the price is even less!
